New Car, Used Car, or No Car At All?

We all have those days where we wonder why we spend time waiting in a queue of traffic on the motorway, or getting stuck behind every single red light from our homes to the supermarket, but there are other days where driving is simply amazing. When its time to replace or upgrade our cars, there can be a very difficult decision to make: should it be a new car, a used car, or no car at all?

Decision Time?

New car
There are a whole range of positive reasons to buy a new car; the first being that you know it hasn’t had any previous owners. Stating the obvious maybe, but you should end up with a clean car with no miles on the clock. Of course, you should also consider how this new car will affect your car insurance quotes; will they go up or down? When you buy a new car, you can control its maintenance from day one. You will be in charge of services, MOTs, and frequent car washes to keep it looking its best. Your car will depreciate in value as soon as you leave the show room so you will need to consider this as a factor.

Used car
Buying a used car can be a good solution if you cannot stretch your budget to a new car, but you should be well read on the procedure in order to get the correct documentation and sufficient information about the car. Research average car prices for the model you are looking at, that way you will know whether you are getting a good or bad deal. A test drive will give you an indication on how it drives, but don’t depend on this test drive for a long term vision about how it will run in a couple of hundred miles time.

Maybe you feel like you don’t need a car anymore, but it is best to fully consider this before you make up your mind. Even if you commute to work by bus or train, would you need to drive on the weekend to the supermarket, or to pick up your mum from the train station? If you are a fitness fanatic and have started to cycle to work, consider those cold and snowy days in the winter when it might not be so desirable to be on your bike. Finally, if you are trying to think green, why not find a car that is better for the environment?
