Green Home Improvement Options

Green home design doesn’t mean buying a few cans of lime paint and a seriously ugly couch. What it means is living with an eye out for mother nature. It means buying products that are sensitive to environmental impact and when you opt to update something in your home think about thwe ecological impact of your choices.

I’ll give you just a couple quick ideas on what I mean. Starting with the kitchen. Many folks are now understanding the importance of drinking clean water and avoiding the city water supply. Unfortunately many of these enlightened folks do by way of plastic water bottles. Not the best choice. By installing a Pur or Brita water cleaner you can stop adding to the never ending supply of used water containers and take your fist step towards green interior design.

You might think that a little water purifyer is hardly a design element so the next item will be. When the day comes that you decide to rip that ugly linoleom floor out of the kitchen, consider replacing it with a bamboo floor. Bamboo is a green designer’s best friend. The tree reaches maturity incredibly fast, the wood is very hard and the costs are quite resonable, they also look terrific.

Speaking of bamboo, let’s move into the living room. When considering updating your furniture you may want to consider adding some bamboo here as well. There are many terrific companies that make great looking bamboo coffee tables, end tables and cheap shelving. Google will be your friend when starting your searches.

One last note about greening up your place. Philips have just announced that they will be bringing to market LED lights to replace standard light bulbs. What’s amazing about these is that they last an incredible 2500 hours as opposed to 1000 hours of a traditional light bulb. We hope to have encouraged you to consider green options when you make design choices in your home. They will not only look great but help you to feel as though we are all moving in a better direction.
