When thinking about new flooring, don’t forget about large area rugs which are a great addition to many rooms in your home. These rugs cover a big proportion of your floor space right up to a foot or so from the edge of the room in some cases. If you are not sure about them, here are some reasons to consider them.
1. Less Troublesome and Cheaper than a Wall to Wall Carpet
A carpet which covers every inch of floor, has to be properly measured and installed. It needs padding and carpet grippers to be a supplied too. A more decorative carpet rug which is only slightly smaller than the wall to wall carpet is generally much cheaper and there are no installation costs to pay. You simply roll it out and you are done.
2. Covering a Poor Floor
If you have spent good money on hard flooring for your newly decorated room, you might be forgiven for thinking that it is a shame to cover over your floor and you might be better off choosing a smaller rug for decoration. But if your floor is not in pristine condition and you do not want to replace it, a large area rug can cover everything but a small margin around the edge of the room (which is unlikely to get much attention anyway). You will find that you can spruce up the edges of the old flooring with varnish or floor paint and cover a multitude of sins with your rug. This will save a huge amount of money over new wooden or stone flooring.
3. Great Temporary Flooring
If you are renting a home, you can buy a large rug and take it with you when you leave without wasting money on new flooring that you will have to leave behind.
4. Adding Comfort, Warmth and Color
Whereas patterned wall to wall carpets are frowned upon by interior designers these days, you can have fun choosing a wonderful color and pattern for a large area rug that will add a new dimension to the room decoration and still stay on trend.
