Don’t Build a New Closet. Organize!

If you find yourself running out of space in your home and don’t know where to put anything, don’t think about finding a corner of a room somewhere so you can build a new closet.  Instead you should take your existing closets and figure out how to breathe new life into them by making them more usable and more organized.

The first thing you need to do is to take stock of what you currently have in your closets and what you like and don’t like about your current closets or organizing system.  During this process, you should think about all the stuff you have, go through and get rid of what you don’t need or don’t use anymore (because surely you have too much stuff to begin with!) and then start to think about how you would best like to use your closets going forward.

Now this decision is a personal one because everyone has different organization methods that they prefer.  Some may like to have lots of hanging space so they can hang all of their clothes and organize them by color.  Others may prefer to have mostly drawers and bins to store their clothes.  What works for one person may not work for another, and even in the same house, what works for one closet may not be effective in another.  You may place a high priority on shoe storage, while your son or daughter needs room in the closet not only for clothes, but for their toys as well.

If you are looking for some great ways to do some organizing or to devise a new organizing system for your closet, you should check out an interesting site we recently found.  The site is called DIY Her Way and it contains lots of useful how-to advice, DIY tips and more, mostly geared to women and their interests.
