The Big Secret to Quitting Drinking and Making it Work

Most struggling alcoholics do not really know what the breakthrough point for them will look like in terms of getting sober.  Many of them imagine that they are different from others who have recovered, and that they could not possibly enjoy a life of sobriety, and that they are doomed to continue to self medicate with alcohol for the rest of their lives.  They believe they are unique in that they must truly love to drink more than anyone else who has ever come before them.  This of course is not true, and any alcoholic who makes the decision to change their life can ask for help and eventually make a huge turnaround.

The secret of how to quit drinking starts with willingness.  It really is just a tiny amount of willingness that the alcoholic must possess, but then they must take real action and ask for help.  The reason that they have to ask for help is because they have struggled for years to control their drinking and they have failed over and over again.  If this were not true then they would not be alcoholic.  So the bottom line is that the alcoholic cannot solve their own problem.  They have tried.  They need outside help in order to change their life….thus, they need to ask for help.

Many stubborn alcoholics want to know how to stop drinking alcohol on your own, but this should really be a long term goal, rather than a short term one.   This is because in the short term, you really need to ask for help in order to unlock this new life of sobriety for yourself.  Asking for help takes guts, and most alcoholics would rather die than to sacrifice their pride for a moment in order to overcome their problem.  But getting past this one issue can make all the difference in the world in terms of getting sober or not.
